After Mr. James was introduced to everyone, Jan called the Business meeting to order at 10:15.
Peggy Carstens, Secretary, reported that the minutes of the April 21, 2006 Business Meeting are in today’s meeting packet and they had also been distributed to membership prior to the meeting. Peggy asked for discussion or comments on the minutes. There were none.
ACTION: A motion was made and seconded to approve the minutes as
presented.
The motion carried.
In Rhonda Buzbee’s absence, Anita Wolfe reported there was no treasurer’s report for today’s meeting, but Rhonda will try to get a report out next week.
Margaret Compton, absent. No report.
Dorethia Green, Membership Chair, reported as of July 14,
2006 we have total membership of 59. This
reflects one resignation and four new members approved today: Jane Bell
(replacing Amy Reed who resigned) from St. Vincent’s Health System, Inett
Handley from St. Vincent’s Health System, Christine Lacek from Trinity Medical
Center, and Risa Pope from Coosa Valley Medical Center. Dorethia presented the new members with a
goody bag to welcome them to AlaSHES/AP.
Dorethia reminded us of our ‘membership drive’ where free registration to annual meeting is awarded to the person who recruits the most new members each year. The winner of the free registration for the 2006 Annual Meeting is Anita Wolfe, who recruited five new members this year. This is Anita’s third time to win the free registration. Dorethia wanted to also express thanks to Gloria Southall, Peggy Carstens and Amy Price for their dedication in recruiting new members for our great Society.
Nominating: Anita
Wolfe
Anita Wolfe, Nominating Chair, thanked everyone who volunteered to serve. The new Board and Officers will begin their terms at annual meeting.
Becky Christopher, Public Relations Chair, reported that she
needs information for the next newsletter by July 28th.
Sharon Johnson, Program Chair, noted the 2006 Annual Meeting registration form is included in today’s meeting packet. Our speaker will be Sharon LaVoy, with a program on time management and productivity. Please return your registration forms by August 25th. The deadline for room reservations is next Friday, July 21st.
This year is our 25th annual meeting and she has special activities planned for celebrating our silver anniversary and hopes that everyone can attend. If you can not attend but would like to order a conference T-shirt, they will be available for $10.00.
Sharon asked for photos of members from 1981 to be mailed to her by August 11th for an activity she has planned. The photos will be returned to you. She indicated we will have a formal dinner on Friday night, so please wear formal gowns for the officer installation and dinner. There will be a photographer on site as well.

Jan Williams reported that the Board made changes today to the 2007 budget that is in the meeting packet. The new 2007 budget will be presented for approval at the 2006 annual meeting.
Peggy Carstens expressed her thanks for AlaSHES/AP allowing her the opportunity to attend the HCEA conference, which is the national organization of Healthcare Executive Assistants. The conference this year was at the Don Cesar Resort in St. Pete Beach, Florida. The 2007 conference will be held in San Diego and Nancy Jarrett, as incoming Secretary, will be offered this opportunity, as AlaSHES/AP pays the registration fee for the Secretary to attend the HCEA conference.
Sharon Johnson asked members to try to get door prizes for the annual meeting, these donations are tax deductible. We also need goody bag items – pens, notepads, cups, huggies, etc. - to fill 50 bags. We have received a $1,000 donation from HFMA and a $500 donation from AIG Valic for sponsorship for annual meeting. She hopes we could all get one vendor to donate at least $100 or a door prize. Everything is appreciated. Every person or business that makes any donation to our annual meeting will be listed in our meeting program. Please be sure to send them a thank-you card to for their donation and let them know how much we appreciate it. Jan will e-mail the form letter for donation requests to you if you need it.
Anita Wolfe also noted we are having a sponsored lunch today, so please take time to express your thanks to George Salem, President Proxsys, LLC. Sponsorships like this affords us the opportunity to have our membership dollars dedicated directly for educating our membership and fulfilling our society’s purpose, objectives and mission.
Linda Ray handed out information on a practice test that will be held on July 18th by the Department of Public Health of the Alabama Incident Management System (AIMS). Please pass this information to your CEO or appropriate person to be aware of and participate in this important event.
Anita introduced Nan Priest, Executive Vice President and Chief Strategy Officer for St. Vincent’s Health System. Ms. Priest welcomed us and thanked us for our continued development and for all we do.
There being no further business, Jan Williams adjourned the Business meeting at 10:35 a.m., noting that today’s program, Financial Planning, will begin after a short break.
Respectfully submitted,
